Legacy of Champions Foundation Announces Co-Chairs for Hall of Fame Dinner

Raleigh, NC – (September 25, 2006) The Legacy of Champions Foundation hosted a Chairwomen’s Reception at the Cardinal Club in downtown Raleigh, NC on Saturday, September 23rd at 6:30 p.m. to announce the Co-Chairs for the Hall of Fame Dinner slated for December 2nd. 

The festively beautiful occasion began with warm words of welcome from Sonny Potts, Vice President of Development.  Dr. Tyrone K. Ashley, Sr,Pastor of Redeeming Love Missionary Baptist Church led the invocation to unite hearts, minds and spirits on one accord.  Terry Spicer, President of Epiphany Public Relations, LLC hosted the event and gave an in-depth overview of the Foundation which was founded in May 2006 by Jacques Curtis, Head Coach of Women’s Basketball at Shaw University.  Curtis is the only coach in the history of the CIAA to win four consecutive championships in Women’s Basketball.  He has also graduated 100% of the student athletes that have participated in his award-winning basketball program.

The Foundation is built on four programmatic thrusts that include cultural, social, technological and athletic initiatives.  Four outreach programs have been implemented and include the Read to Achieve Program, Big Sister Program, LOC Toastmasters Club and Skills & Drills Clinic. Workshops with trained facilitators will partner with these programs throughout the year to equip participants with tools and life skills to become effective change agents in the community.

Members of the Board of Directors were present for the event.  Dr. Joseph Bell, President of the HB Group Incorporated of Savannah, GA is the Chairman of the Board.  Other Board members include: Jacques Curtis, Founder and Executive Director; Dr. Donnell Lewis, Vice Chairman and President/CEO of CCA Rehabilitation, Inc. of Raleigh, NC; Sonya Catlett, Vice President of Progressive Business Solutions of Raleigh, NC; Laquita Joseph, President of Thomas, Lloyd & Shedrick of Nashville, TN;
Attorney Lorenzo Williams of the Law Offices of Gary, Williams, Parenti, Finney, Lewis, McManus, Watson & Sperando, P.L. of Stuart, FL; Freddie Gary, President of Gary Financial Corporation of Stuart, FL; Becky Sandsbury, President, Real Life Communication of Raleigh, NC and Michelle Curtis,
Vice President of MJ3 of Raleigh, NC and wife of Founder, Jacques Curtis. 

Dr. Bell said, “I am extremely excited about the Foundation and the work before us.  The Board offers full support and congratulations to Jacques Curtis for this outstanding accomplishment.”

The Foundation announced the Advisory Council; a component of dynamic leaders that have committed to advancing and developing programmatic thrusts, special projects and fundraising.  Their collective leadership is validation of community and commitment to public service.  The members are Mazie Lewis, President of the Omicron Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.; Dr. Gale Isaacs, President, Alpha Theta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; Selene Brent, President of the
Raleigh Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; Jennifer Jones, Executive Director of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. whose national headquarters are in Cary, NC; Jackie Harris, Vice President of Phase 2 Personal Training Centers; Evelyn Sanders, President of Johnston County
Alumnae and Terry Spicer, publicist for the Foundation.

Lorraine Stephens, President of L. Stephens & Associates, and Brenda Lewis, Vice President of Human Resources at Occidental Fire & Casualty, were introduced as Co-Chairs of the Hall of Fame Dinner slated for December 2nd.  They were chosen for this project because of their relentless
duty to community and their amazing ability to get the job done. The Foundation is extremely excited to partner with both of these dynamic women in this effort to honor other outstanding women. The Advisory Council will work with them collectively and are excited about their leadership. The black tie Dinner is a major fundraiser that will honor trailblazers for humanitarian, entertainment and athletic accomplishments. 

Dr. Donnell Lewis, Vice Chairman and his wife, Brenda Lewis, Co-Chair, made a $10K pledge to fulfill the work of the Foundation during the event. 

Jacques Curtis, Founder and Executive Director, came to the podium to a standing ovation.  Extremely excited about the culmination of his dream, he said, “I have to say that I’m good.  Look at the collective leadership of LOC and I can truly say that it doesn’t get any better than this.”  Everyone in attendance agreed with the sentiments of this visionary.  He introduced ambassadors of the Foundation; some of them members of his basketball team.  They introduced themselves to the audience to show the skills that have been acquired at the Toastmaster Club meetings.  He thanked the “Team Behind the Team” for making the event and the Foundation a success.  Team members also included Linda Davis, Director of Special Projects.
